Vintage Postal Ephemera Overlay Kit

Half the charm of an old postcard is what the post did to it: a slightly crooked postmark, wavy cancellation lines, an air mail label, a name written out in someone’s best handwriting. This kit collects those marks so you can lay them over your own designs.

There are 53 pieces, each photographed and cut out onto a transparent background, so every one is the real thing: uneven ink, faded edges, the smudge of a rubber stamp pressed by hand. Each piece sits on its own layer with its own colour layer, so you can turn a black postmark navy, red or green, then move, rotate and scale it into place on a postcard, an envelope or a label.

The kit comes as three PSDs, one for each group below, and every piece is also a separate transparent PNG.

• 20 postmarks and cancellations: dated town postmarks from Britain, Belgium and France (1938 to 1973), four Japanese pictorial postmarks, four wavy line cancellations, a slogan cancellation and a Great Britain postage paid meter mark
• 11 printed labels and postcard backs: two vintage postcard backs, By Air Mail and Air Letter labels, an air letter notice, First Day of Issue and date stamps, and a sender’s name and address label
• 22 handwritten words: names, addresses, dates and greetings in English and French, including Mademoiselle, Bonne Fête, À Bientôt and Very Many Thanks
